General Information
The beautiful hill state of
Sikkim lies on the eastern tip of the Himalayas bordered by Bhutan,
Nepal and Tibet. It is believed that the name Sikkim is derived from
the Limbu word "suhim", meaning "New House" or "Happy Home".
Sikkim’s size belies the richness of culture, customs, heritage,
flora and fauna which will enrich you. Sikkim is a small stretch of
rugged land just 115 km by 65 km sandwiched between the kingdom of
Nepal in the West where the Singalila Ridge forms a natural border
and the Kingdom of Bhutan in the East. Towards its Northern border
is the plateau of Tibet whereas in the South, the Tista and Rangit
River forms a natural boundary with the Indian state of West Bengal.
